Water Saving Idea's and Tips
A broad range of ideas, collaborated from different sources
By Brad Smith from Mt Evelyn Garden Centre
- Always use a trigger nozzle hose
- Never use a sprinkler
- Avoid micro-sprays (misters) as they waste
up to 70% through drifting and if the soil
is mulched, it will not penetrate the surface
- If using a timer, remember to adjust with rainfall
- Install a rainwater tank to suit your garden watering needs, the size of your house and the position of your down pipes
- Use a drip watering system or porous hose which
cuts wastage by ensuring that the water only goes
to where it is needed.
- Remove weeds, as they compete with plants for water
- Always water the root zone, not the leaves or flowers
- MULCH - It can save up to 50% Water
- Use a pool cover and save up to 30,000 liters a year
When in our garden centre, we recommended the purchase of Water Saving Crystals. Water Saving Crystals absorb up to 100x their weight and release water over a month. Also when in store look for these symbols.
