How to improve clay soil.
Clay soil, the gardeners worst friend?

‘Gypsum Clay Breaker’ is one of the best products you can add to your soil. Clay soil is made up of very small particles of sand and grit. One gram of clay has enough surface area to cover a football field. Adding Gypsum causes the particles to clump together and helps them to absorb nutrients.

Organic matter such as cow, sheep, horse, chicken, mushroom and natural composts can dramatically improve your soils condition. Mix these thoroughly into the clay to a depth of 15-25cm. As they break down, the release nutrients and cause particles to form into the compost.

‘Dolomite Lime’ is slow acting. ‘Dolomite Lime’ is not a fertilizer, it is more of a soil unlocker. It adds vital ingredients such as calcium and magnesium. It helps break up the clay too. As it is slow acting, it won’t interfere with the organic matter.

For existing plants that are planted in clay soil, using a liquid ground-breaker that is diluted into water acts on the same basis that ‘Gypsum Clay Breaker’ does.

Visit us in-store to see what plants are clay friendly, plant these if you cannot improve your soils condition. Soil testing kits available.
